Tips for Keeping Your Car Germ-Free
/Tips for Keeping Your Car Germ-Free
There’s nothing better than a clean, sparkling vehicle. However, a clean car isn’t just a shiny exterior. What about keeping the interior of your car germ-free? Whether you’re doing some springtime cleaning or you just need to tidy up your interior, check out these tips for cleaning and sanitizing your vehicle.
Clean AND Sanitize!
Start with the basics, give your car a good exterior wash. If you don’t feel like busting out the hose and soap, remember that all of our Rocky Mountain Car Wash locations are still open 24/7. Once your ride is shining, use a vacuum to clean your carpet, mats, and even your roof.
After all that dirt is gone, you’ll want to wash the interior before sanitizing it. There are many specialized cleaning products but soap and water usually does the trick. Mix some mild dish soap and warm water together with a soft brush. Use the brush and the soapy water to clean all of the nooks and crannies. Why use soap to clean your interior? Most viruses are self-assembled nanoparticles in which the weakest link is the fatty membrane. Soap dissolves the fat membrane and breaks the virus apart.
Now that your interior is clean, let’s tackle those nasty germs. Disinfectant wipes that both clean and disinfect work very well. If you can’t get your hands on disinfectant wipes, you can use 70% isopropyl alcohol. Wipe down all surfaces and finish with a microfiber cloth.
Touchpoints
Did you know that your steering wheel could be 4 times as dirty as a public toilet seat? Just like sanitizing your door knobs or phone constantly, you should also wipe down frequent touchpoints in your vehicle every time you get in and out. This includes the steering wheel, gear shifter, door handles(in and out), radio knobs, seat adjusters, touch screens, seat belts, keys, and any other parts of your interior you find yourself touching constantly.
Supplies
Keep hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes easily accessible in your car. Think about every time you use the gas pump, touch the keypad on the credit card machine, or go in and out of the grocery store. You will be bringing all of those gross germs back into your vehicle! By using hand sanitizer and wiping down everything you touch, you can help minimize the spread of germs within your vehicle.
